So over 300,000 copies of Doom 3 sold on the first week of it’s release. There was press everywhere (including here) about the game and just how amazing it is. Well, funny story! While Doom 3 IS great looking and initially scary, it turns the corner from eye candy to, well, a regular ‘ol game. It’s actually no different than other sci-fi horror titles… which isn’t really a bad thing, but if it came down to actual game content, I’d have to choose a Silent Hill or Resident Evil over this.

For those not in the know, it’s basically a FPS set in the ‘hell has opened in space, get ready to be killed’ style. Get surprised by a monster. Die. Come back and know where he is. Etc. Also, be wary of joining the marines of the future; they are incapable of holding a flashlight and a weapon at the same time.

The game’s probably only truly fun on a super high end system… my 2.2gzh and Geforce 4 had trouble keeping up. Play or wait for the upcoming movie based on this game, and staring, sigh, ‘The Rock’.
