Death Cab For Cutie
“Plans”
(Atlantic)

Death Cab has the poignant beauty thing down to a tee, without being formulaic. “Plans” is the most fluid album yet, with all the songs centered on loss, without abandoning Death Cab’s keen ability to mix tragedy, poppy electronics, acoustic guitar and, yes. trumpets. Gibbard’s lyrics are back in full metaphorical force and so damn relatable that you might cry a little – or maybe dance around. But with tracks this full there’s no room for tears. Just don’t get drunk by yourself while you listen to, “What Sarah Said” there’s only so much one heart can take. And get over the new label bitterness; they guys deserve all the pedals money can buy.
