Inner demons shielded by melodic instrumental beats silently escape amidst the vocals of Lisa Dewey. “Busk”, the latest from Lisa Dewey and the Lotus Life, means “To play music or perform entertainment in a public place, usually while soliciting money” (courtesy of www.dictionary.com). Perhaps this refers to the early days of the once-solo performer, but either way it’s a pretty general term that doesn’t reveal a whole lot about what to expect from the album. Tracks like “Mellow Day” and “Hollow” describe the overall vibe: laid-back and emotionally charged. On the same wavelength as Dido or more recently Hem, Lisa Dewey has an edge that will push her into the mainstream market and bring increased notoriety to the San Francisco music scene with this on-the-verge pop-femme artist.
