“Artists in a Time of War” is an earnest and inspirational spoken word album that draws on our thought process by posing topics and references that may challenge our preconceptions of things. Zinn explains at one point that the highest form of patriotism is not necessarily to always applaud and support the government, an artificial creation, but to question the government when it does something that you do not agree with. Consider a quote Zinn uses from feminist/anarchist Emily Goldman: “I love the country, but I don’t love the government.” This plea to understand what is going on and to be conscience of current events is very appealing.
