In 2015, Australian grindcore sludge punkers King Parrot released an album called, “Dead Set”.
It dropped on Housecore Records for American distribution. Housecore is Phil Anselmo’s label. And Phil Anselmo is the gravel-for-breakfast singer of Pantera/Superjoint Ritual/Down/A bunch of other things. He also produced the album and appears in the video for the first single, “Like a Rat”.
That’s about all the street cred one needs in the world of metal.
The band has been around since 2010, but through their independently released, “The Stench of Hardcore Pub Trash” EP and followup full length “Bite Your Head Off” (Candlelight Records), the band has gained what the industry calls, ‘traction’.
Which means a lot of people are paying attention.
And there is a reason for that.
Extremely pure aggression coupled with a technical execution of riffs and changes that challenges the listener to a fight. Then buys them a beer after it kicks their ass.
Australians are brilliant that way.
And they are funny. And so is Phil… check out the comedic sensibilities coupled with some sonic devastation from, “Like a Rat”, the first single off the “Dead Set” album.
And here is a lovely track called, “Shit on the Liver” from their previous album, “Bite Your Head Off”. It has a lengthy intro skit, but rams into the song part like an drunken street trick on crank.
Oh yeah… and this is an actual Australian King Parrot. Now you know.
