Touch & Go’s re-release of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs self-released ep, along with some great tour dates supporting the John Spencer Blues Explosion, promises to expose Brooklyns new kings of arty-garage pop to a much wider audience. This is a very good thing. With the White Stripes and the Strokes hitting the major airwaves the gate is wide open for bands that take bigger risks to jump on the stage and steal the show. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs take these risks, being so much more than a retro act with youthful appeal. In an all too short set of five songs they run the gamut from explosive, herky-jerky, no-wave damaged pop and sonic displays of blast beat frenzy to anthemic de-constructions of Tommy James and the Shondells. All this and they sound like theyre having the time of their lives doing it. Three resounding yeahs from me!
