Review: Treephort

Treephort
“Enchanted Forest”
(Springman)

Post-punk bands are generally way too serious.  Not Treephort, though.  The music isn’t too different from what you’d hear from a Death Cab (OK, they’re not that good-maybe a Dashboard Confessional) record.  The sentiments, however, are straight-up Weird Al.  With song titles like, “Jesus Would Play this Show for Free” and lyrics like, “Take a loan out and kill your parents/ Maybe major in Philosophy, get your minor in Women’s Studies”, you know you’re in for a half-hour of tongue-in-cheek fun.  There’s more than a little funk mixed into Treephort’s equation; think of Primus’ knack for improvision and Ween’s flair for the unusual.  Give it a listen, just ignore the unicorn on the cover.
