Review: The Cramps

The Cramps
“Fiends of Dope Island”
(Vengeance)

Freshly invigorated by regaining control of its own back catalog and resurrecting its own label, The Cramps drops on a bomb on the scene with a new chapter in its Goth-rock death blues. The group began being described with the term “psychobilly” in 1976 and it is still true today, such is the constancy and integrity of this lauded and peerless cult band built around the duo Lux Interior (vocals and man-sized high heels) and Poison Ivy (guitars and sultry sex appeal). Over a quarter-century career a date with the Fiends of Dope Island is still just as ferocious and groovy as a Date with Elvis.
