Review: The Majesticons

The Majesticons
“Beauty Party”
(Big Dada Records)

Spearheaded by Mike Ladd, The Majesticons CD “Beauty Party” as a concept is both smart and satirical. The premise of the album is revealed in the overly jiggy lyrical content as well as the hidden track.  It narrates something to the effect of the Majesticons linking up with the “aristocratic Trusticons to spread the virus of party and bullsh*t, with supreme sophistication”.

The High points on the CD are the guest appearances.  The addition of MURS from Living Legends and El-P from Definitive Jux are welcome lyrical accompaniments on Beauty Party.  The production is definitely post-jiggy as far as the sound of the tracks is concerned.  This makes for one terrifically tongue-in-cheek statement about the industry and the state of Hip Hop as we know it.  This record is to be understood before it can be really enjoyed.  Having said that, listen, understand and enjoy the Beauty Party.
