Review: The Common Cold

The Common Cold
(Action Driver)

Does the term ‘instrumental’ create any interest in music anymore? There was a time, say, right around Tortoise’s debut, when instrumental bands were blowing minds. Now though, most of them, save a few, are just enabling naps. Not that this doesn’t have a likable quality; these are ISIS’ sound guys for heaven’s sake. It’s just so derivative. Oodles of bands have done this, almost exactly. So, based on one’s tolerance for ‘instrumental post-rock’ akin to Pele, Slint or Don Caballero, this will either appeal to you or not. Not seems appropriate.
