Review: Schatzi

Schatzi
““Fifty Reasons to Explode””
(Mammoth Records)

Austin-based fun rock.  Insane catchiness not unlike the toe-tapping addiction created by Harvey Danger or the Starlight Mints, with the straight pop sensibility of Weezer.  And it possesses a post-rock intelligence while still boppin’ out a la the Anniversary or AM/FM. What it doesn’t do is sound new or different than any of those bands.  So what?  A “guilty pleasure” band that will have you coming back for more and more and more. Thirteen jams to get spring started right.  Windows down, ice-cold Slurpee in hand and Schatzi rockin’’ out of the dash.  My wife thinks it’s cool if I listen to this, but don’t tell my friends.
