Live Prong. Delivers as promised. “Live” disks, are basically, ‘Greatest Hits’, with a couple of gems thrown in, only live. Prong was a seminal prog-thrash band of the late 80’s/early 90’s with a signature low-end grumble of thrash, straight from the gutters of New York. It was that dark club intensity that put the Prong signature upon their brand of metal and allowed them to stand a little to the left of the pack they most commonly get associated with (early Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament, etc).
The stripped down three piece approach was, and still is, an uncommon structure for a unit that produces such a heavy sound. It’s this simplicity that translated into brutally stark riffs, broken down, scarred and bleeding, but stamping on defiantly into a moshing groove. And here it is live. A pretty good sampling of their catalog, with tracks from most every album (except Force Fed). Their full length “Cleansing” boasts the most cuts totaling five. The meatiest tracks all blister (expectantly) live. “Broken Peace”, “Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck”, “Beg to Differ”, “Prove You Wrong” and “Unconditional” all made this disk one of the more listened to live disks I own.
