Volcano, I’m Still Excited!!
“Self-Titled”
(Polyvinyl)

First of all, the name-I know, it sucks.  Big time.  Can you imagine saying to your friends, “Hey, let’s go check out Volcano, I’m Still Excited!! at Johnny Logburn’s place tonight!”  Of course not.  It’s a stupid name.  Get over it.

VISE play a little brand of catchy indie rock with lots of harmonies and backing vocals, a la Weezer, only VISE substitutes an organ for a bass guitar, a la the Doors.

This self titled gem of an album is fully of dreamy, languid tunes that will have you nodding your head slowly back and forth (and maybe even side to side) with the beautiful melodies of “Mostly on an Island” and the quirky, danceable “Fisticuffs”.

Now, just so you know, Weezer is one of my favorite bands (I’m a dork) and I don’t go throwing their name around at random, just because I can.  Mark Duplass has a wonderfully rich voice and is also an adept lyricist, able to mix pleading choruses with rhetorical questions and sardonic observations.  This album is forty minutes well spent.
