Another release from a label that seems to specialize in annoying, old-school crust punk sounds, and “Torture Tools” by Virulent Strain is no exception. Definitely the most obnoxious vocals I’ve EVER heard, and it may appeal to some connoisseurs on that count alone. Still I find little about this that I could recommend. Perhaps they are a blast live, but this recording doesn’’t really shine. Almost sounds like some of the punk demo tapes I used to collect when I was a wee lad. Needless to say I don’t listen to many of those any more. At least it isn’t more Blink 182esque rubbish. Die-hard fans of ’80s styled punk check it out, but anybody else, beware.
