David Lynch, surrealist tv and film director and all around weird dude, has announced he is parting ways with the Twin Peaks revival.
The series is the auteur’s best known work (although his career is quite prolific), so his departure is a significant blow and marks, for the time being, an end to the reboot of the series.
As recently as January saw series star Kyle MacLachlan confirming his return as Agent Dale Cooper. But about a month ago he informed the public that, “I’m not sure at this point if it’s happening.”
Lynch has taken to Facebook to make an official announcement: “Dear Facebook Friends, Showtime did not pull the plug on Twin Peaks. After 1 year and 4 months of negotiations, I left because not enough money was offered to do the script the way I felt it needed to be done. This weekend I started to call actors to let them know I would not be directing.”
The notoriously erratic director did add some hope for fans of a Lynch-less Twin Peaks.
“Twin Peaks may still be very much alive at Showtime. I love the world of Twin Peaks and wish things could have worked out differently.”
The series fanbase is often as unhinged as its director. This begs the question… is a Twin Peaks that doesn’t have have the involvement of Lynch something that the series loyal followers truly want?
