Review: Waterdown

Waterdown
““Draw a Smiling Face””
(Two Friends Recordings)

This tantalizingly short, four song EP from Germany’s Waterdown gives a taste of good things to come from the land of sausages and nice cars.  Waterdown combines the ferocity and passion of traditional hardcore with melodic vocal melodies.  Fans of Sick of it All and H20 will recognize the format and certainly embrace “Draw a Smiling Face”.  The title track aptly captures the essence of the band, surrounding Marcel’s soaring vocals with Ingo’s guttural screams.  The result is a sound that cannot easy be defined or pigeonholed into a distinct category.  None of that really matters though, does it?  Just keep an eye out for their full-length release on Victory Records entitled “Never Kill the Boy on the First Date”.  Good advice.
