Review: Me First & The Gimme Gimmes

Me First & The Gimme Gimmes
““Blow in the Wind””
(Fat Wreck Chords)

Twenty-seven and a half minutes of cover songs.  It sounds like a dumb concept but it’s more fun then getting drunk on prom night and blowing chunks on the queen. These guys are a riot.  Hailing from San Francisco The Gimmes have taken thirteen classics and turned them into their own songs. Kinda the way Jimi did with his rendition of Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtower”. It’s a punky-esque tribute to everyone from Dylan to Cat Stevens to the Beach Boys and a few fifties tunes thrown in for good measure. A novelty but still good for a listen. Check ‘em out on this summer’s Warped Tour. They’re sure to put a cracked smile on your face and  a warm fuzzy feeling in your stomach (or that could be the chunks re-surfacing again).
