Hear three new Iggy Pop songs

This is a vampire that sometimes goes by the name of Iggy Pop.

He was born James Newell Osterberg, but no one named Jimmy Osterberg would ever grow up to look like this on stage…

Iggy Pop rose to fame as the vocalist for the proto-punk band The Stooges, one of the originators of the US punk movement.

Their biggest hit was a gem called, “I Wanna Be Your Dog”. (included below for your listening pleasures).

Iggy had a respectful solo career and has ascended to cult status worship as an innovator of the punk scene and for his spastic, out-of-control, often dangerous to himself and anyone who gets caught in the way live performances.

His song, “Lust For Life” (co-written with David Bowie) probably rings familiar in a lot of old people’s ears as it got picked up for a successful Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines marketing campaign and ran on numerous commercials.

I’m not sure how they missed the opening lines of, “Here comes Johnny Yen again – With the liquor and drugs” and decided that would be the song to appeal to middle-aged retires looking to waddle through free buffets while floating on the ocean.

This is how you sell tickets on cruise lines.

Iggy has always been savvy to the landscape of the music industry, and was wise to tap Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss) to help produce his new album, ‘Post Pop Depression’. Homme joins Iggy as part of his backing band along with QOTSA bandmate Dean Fertita and Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders.

Three songs have been leaked in advance of the March 2016 official release and subsequent tour.

Keep in mind, Iggy is pushing 70 years old… so the onstage shenanigans are going to be subdued from the wild-man antics of his youth, but Iggy is still as commanding a presence as ever.

The sepent-like “Break Into Your Heart”

“Gardenia” – live from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

The new wave laced, “Sunday”

Don’t look at my ‘V’

As promised… The Stooges hit, “I Wanna Be Your Dog”

And if you are still with me… check out this first hand recollection of the destructive prowess of vintage Iggy Pop as recollected by Henry Rollins.

This is actually a hilarious listen… wade into it…
