Review: Even Johansen

Even Johansen
“Quiet & Still”
(FiveOneInc.)

Staying true to his album’s moniker, Even Johansen has fashioned something precisely that – quiet and still.  You drift sleepily in and out of each song, never fully aware of where one ends and the other begins.  I could barely keep my head above water, nearly drowning in its melancholy ocean.  It’s not necessarily a bad pick – Johansen’s sweet, honeysickle alternative-country guitar picks are gentle and soothing – it’s just missing more than it’s share of spice and passion throughout.  Since Quiet & Still nearly induced a coma, I’m going to suggest that it’s more suitable for the individual suffering from sleep-deprivation.
