Review: Mushroomhead

Mushroomhead
“XIII”
(Universal Records)

Wow! Heavy metal twisted with rock-opera and a few little Motown-y backup singer parts stirred in for spice.  Very clean sounding mixes, heavy testosterone voice that becomes opera rock singer in a flash, rapid tempo changes with no clingy residue.  If you must pin me down to “name-that-sound” I’d have to say Rammstein meets Flaw meets Queen but really they have a sound all their own.  My favorite line is “Ashes to ashes, gas cans and matches,” from track nine, “Almost Gone”.  Hot movie music sound that makes me want to kill people (in a good way) with an ultra-professional sound.  Will definitely get lots of play at my house.
