Review: Mull Historical Society

Mull Historical Society
“Us”
(XL Recordings)

Mull Historical Society is written, produced and performed by Colin McIntyre. The bright indie-pop songs recall Badly Drawn Boy and the radio-ready Flaming Lips. There is a focus on melody and the song on this warm, well-produced vocal album. The up and coming Scottish pop wizard conjures one’s fingers to snapping and head to humming with the tunes on “Us”. The talented multi-instrumentalist delivers an uplifting, summer sound throughout this album with nods toward ’70s pop confection. This is an enhanced CD, including four extra songs from the recording sessions.
