Review: DJ DNA

DJ DNA
“The Exploration EP”
(Self-Released)

DJ DNA definitely has his sampling and sequencing chops honed and it shows. He delivers with a nice show of skill in writing tasty chunky stylish down tempo trip hoppy instrumental cuts.  Some people may not like the sometimes oddly or downright out of tune samples but it fits the sort of off kilter vibe of the music. Couple the simplistic hip hop beats with some nice DJ trickery and overall groove and you have the makes of a really nice EP. In a genre where most people just try and sound like DJ Shadow, DJ DNA’s personality comes through and does not disappoint. I could do without the intro track which is kind of an explanation of his goal to the listener. I think the tracks let you know pretty clearly what his goal is thank you. Enough with the EP, bring on the full length.
