Review: Dub Gabriel

Dub Gabriel
“Ascend”
(Baboon Records)

Feel the mood, let it roll on through, this is high context music. Not asking for understanding as much as appreciation and enjoyment, the overall accomplishment of mystic fusions complimented with modern sounds in the tent of tasteful presentation is a success.  Complete in its complexity and intriguing in the use of traditional sound backed by contemporary production, unfortunately I did not find enough to hold my attention.

I can listen to this during a yoga session or even while reading over the Sunday newspaper.  It flows along, seemingly undisturbed by the contemporary woes that so much music attempts to address and instead addresses the skills of Djing and production. Emotional appeal still runs strong, though all vocals are in a foreign language, their overall tone is primarily spiritual.  This is an impressive, though not awing presentation of electro dub.
