Review: Communique

Communique
“A Crescent Honeymoon”
(Lookout!)

Emo pop-punk that owes a bit more to the Cars and Guided By Voices than Sunny Day Real Estate and Jawbreaker, which is kind of a relief.  New wave as all get out.  Makes one think of a slicker, more emo, Strokes.  Painfully catchy and lush pop arrangements.  You will hear this on the radio really soon if you haven’t already.  My main beef is it says on their press sheet they offer “nods to Roxy Music”, but I couldn’t detect so much as a wink in that direction.  Anyways, you may want to hate this, but you won’t be able to deny how skillfully Communique have crafted these explicit crowd pleasers.
