Ex-members of the Locust, among others, offer us their brutal first full-length cut for Metal Blade. A far cry from the sans bass, 30 second song freakfests some of us were privileged enough to witness here in San Diego a few years ago, but every bit as savage. Precious few newer metal bands thrash this hard with as much skill and stamina.
Here Cattle Decapitation come off like a fully mature black/death grindcore band that has enough energy to take on the world and just might. Travis Ryans vocals (no effects used whatsoever!) must be heard to be believed. David Astors drumming is still an unfathomable feat of superhuman strength, speed and dexterity. New guitarist Josh Elmore (replacing Locust/Holy Molar member Gabe Serbian) shreds with the best of them and bassist Troy Oftendal rumbles and roars like a beast underneath the mix, occasionally lunging up to the surface for a smoldering split-second bass lead.
Fans of Carcass, Napalm Death and Cannibal Corpse will find a fresh and flavorful gastronomic delight here.
