Bright Eyes ” Lifted or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground “ (Saddle Creek)

Bright Eyes (BE) is one of those bands that are so emotionally raw in their (well, his – Conor Oberst, guitarist and vocalist to BE) music, no, aura that they vibe, it crosses into peoples genre’s that normally aren’t into that style. As BE is one of those bands, some of their songs borderline on true fucking genius. Masterpieces. Whatever word amplipies my pure, unheralded desire for everyone to just spin at least one song. There’s plenty to go around. “Lover I Don’t Have to Love”, “Bowl of Oranges” or “A Perfect Sonnet” from a previous album, “Every Day and Every Night” would be the obvious choices to give to a virgin listener, but practically every song in their catalog (I have four, I think they have six albums total) has it’s own unique and gentle flavor. Alt country? Hardly. Fucking amazingly poetic brilliance crammed into a skinnie, emo looking kid? Totally.

PR!
