I had a big plan for today. I was going to get up and go to the Laundromat to take care of some washing. While my clothes were busy drying I was planning on going across the street to the carwash to get a little shine back on the Beemer. Alas, my ATM card was broken and I couldn’t get any cash out of the machine, so I decided to come home and listen to the new Bloodlet CD. I personally would rather place myself inside of a dryer and sit through a couple of spin cycles than hear any more of this buttrock metal stuff. Bloodlet is from the marshes of Florida and I think it would have been better for all if they’d just stayed there. Crushing riffs and howling, distorted vocals that sound like they actually were recorded live in a swamp make up the preponderance of the twelve tracks. Is there something going on in the South that I’m just not aware of? Who’s influencing these bands? There must not be much going down in that lower right quadrant of the Nation because all of these tracks seem to be dominated by themes of drugs, beer, fighting, death, and more beer. It’s like gangsta rap for dudes with missing teeth and long hair. Hell, maybe I should just save my quarters and do my laundry on my washboard stomach.
