Review: The Apes

The Apes
““Tapestry Mastery””
(Birdman)

Tapestry Mastery is a collage of slow grinding songs heavy on eerie, haunting organs; humming and peaking bass lines; delicate and/or thumping drumming; and pleading, distant vocals.  That is it in a nutshell.  When you expand The Apes’ concept, one can notice that there may be hints of a deeper meaning to their craziness, but that higher plane of consciousness is masked to this writer.  This six-song EP is merely a prelude to an upcoming full-length which will be their first on Birdman.  The Apes’ live set is said to bring mayhem, and judging from the pictures on their site, the brightly colored costumes bring to mind nothing short of resounding concurrence.
