As of late, the Quake series have gone from crazy single player action to insane, massive multiplayer arenas. So after only an hour or two with Quake 4, I was surprised to see a much more complicated (at least for Quake standards) single player story line. The game starts off feeling a bit Halo-ish, with you and a batch of other soldiers fighting the Strogg aliens on their own planet, Stroggos. Advanced single player options not before seen in any Quake title go from squad tatics and teamwork to multiple level objectives aligned with a linear story path. And your computer buddies actually hold their own, which is nice for a change. That aside, it’s a FPS, and doesn’t take that many gaming sessions to finish the single player game. Multiplayer is as expected, but with smaller teams per side. Overall, this is pretty damn alright.
