Review: Waldeck

Austrian electronica producer Klaus Waldeck continues exploring trip-hop terrain on his third full-length.  Downbeat and dubby, Waldeck lands somewhere inbetween Tricky and Portishead, but recalls the likes of Scientist and King Tubby.  Joy Malcolm’s vocals slither just over the surface of most of the tracks perfectly.  Anything more would be too much and anything less wouldn’t need to be there.  Waldeck’s treatment of Bowie’s Catpeople is a hoot in particular and overall he proves that there is still something captivating going on with this sound and that there is still real music coming out of a post-Falco Austria.
