Review: Dying Midwestern

Dying Midwestern
“This Killing Me Is Over”
(Evil Owl Records)

Although the name gives off the impression that the band is hardcore, it’s more of a Alkaline Trio meets Hagfish time of feel. The music is very Alkaline with a strong scent of Swingin Utters ‘Streets of San Francisco’ style; moderately paced rock-punk songs with loose bass chords, while the vocals totally remind me of George Benson’s nasally tone and emphasis. The songs revolve around drinking and general depression, although I’m not sure where they were trying to go with track 10, “Vampire”, which is about, well, being a vampire. Overall, a very decent almost fifty minute album, and fans of the above bands and the genre will find solitude with Dying Midwestern.
