Winds’ The Imaginary Direction of Time is characterized by its reoccurring sense of strings and piano intertwined with a rock/prog/metal tinge. Actually, it is a very piano-heavy album that laces the keys atop the vocals and haunting spoken word phrases, then launches straight into speedy guitar harmonies and, yes, they do know the definition of “guitar solo.” This record was recorded in sections by instrument over about a year’s time and it reflects such a meandering course. As a whole, it flows along a rising and falling scale, as the songs blend into one another the album brings the listener to highs and lets them slide down to the lows. Good background music that almost gives you the impression that you just experienced a full year ups and downs in one listen.
