Vaux
““There Must be Some Way to Stop Them””
(Volcom Entertainment)

“”This is the anthem of the year and I’m fucking gold”” declares the opening line on Vaux’’s latest release ““There Must be Some Way to Stop Them”.”  I can remember when …And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead was heralded as releasing the best record of the year for their respective genre, and if all that jazz was true, Vaux could fittingly be awarded that title for this year.  I say that because the two bands sound similar with Vaux taking a more aggressive approach.

Vaux sets an impressive standard as far as songwriting goes, and having three guitar players I guess can’t hurt, right?  “Fame” explores verses full of interesting timing accents fused together with choruses that prefer the more straight-ahead approach.  The album’s artwork also attracted my attention because it follows a mythology-like theme with intriguing graphics depicting scenes of slain Medusas and gods of lightning.  Vaux is definitely a band to keep your eyes on, especially if they continue to come up with release as good as this one.
