Tommy Guerrero
“Soul Food Taqueria”
(Mo Wax)

As the name suggests, this indie-funk album is as comfortable as a your favorite ethnic eatery and sly and downbeat, to boot. Slowed down from Bones Brigade speed, Guerrero lets roll out the lo-fi chill out. Not spare like previous albums, there is more of a hierarchy of sound layers here for an excellent 3-D stereo experience of the sonic analgesic. There is even vocals from Lyrics Born (Blackalicious, DJ Shadow) on “Gettin it Together” and known associate Gresham Taylor sings on two tracks. Lightly Latin and faintly funky, “Soul Food Taqueria” is a premium soundtrack for slowly cruising the ‘hood.
