On the CD intro this group has a technique of vocal reverb and clamorous alt-blues that recalls The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. However, “Cheap Cosmetics” is a fusion of hyperactive spy theme guitar with a shade of Elvis Presley in the vocals. “Big Fat Lady” is thunder-soul from Thundercrack with a raw primitivism that could be a side of one of the highly sought seven-inch albums from The Gories. A wide spectrum of sound and roots in the best styles makes ‘The Crack’ a winning album.
