Review: The Sun

The Sun
““Love & Death EP””
(Warner Bros. Records)

What is about jangley rock music that is so fucking exciting?  Every time I hear bands like The Sun the Nirvana “Lithium” video where Kurt Cobain jumps into a drum set keeps playing back in my head.  There’s just something so appealing about not giving a flying fuck about anything.  Then there’s a band like The Sun who happily rides the coattails of bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The White Stripes.  I like The Sun’s use of synth effects and the frequency games they often play on songs such as “Back in the Summer of ‘72” with the Doors sounding throwback and screaming.  It is also a wonderful testament to The Sun’s raw talent that they can follow up a sporadic rock song with a finger picking classic rock type song like “Eyelids Apart”.  Very cool.
