The Strugglers, a music project started by Randy Bickford, is a relaxed, mellow song-oriented project. The songs on the album are delivered with a something of a Southern drawl. Or, is that a creaky Western voice with the corner of the mouth pulled back? Each piece is simply arranged with guitars, bass and drums and is thus spare and understated. There are some keyboards but what is relied on here is the strength of the lyrics and a personal delivery. This works well and it is a credit to Bickford that the album succeeds so well with so little gimmickry.
