Review: The Gathering

The Gathering
“Souvenirs”
(The End)

I’m reading up on the history of this band and unbelievably enough they’ve progressed into their current style, a dreamy, trippy electronic affair with sweet female vocals from their original style as a death metal band with traditional growling male vocals.  I’m not sure how one goes down that road, but there you have it.  I won’t compare this to Bjork, but it’s the best I can do to put you in the ballpark of this band’s sound.

The vocals and melodies warmly wrap around each other creating a wide emotional swathe. It’s good warm music suitable for all ages, all mothers.  The songs develop slowly, attempting to seduce the listener in with expansive, shifting melodies rather than nabbing the listener right up front.  You might not even feel the song until the song is over.
