Review: The Apparitions

The Apparitions
“Oxygen Think Tank”
(Death By Polka)

The Apparitions have classified their sound as “post-secondary political science rock with a minor in art history.” One of the best genres out there. Listening to them brings back fond memories of other “post-secondary political science rock with a minor in art history” genre bands. Flaming Lips have grown out of the genre, but they could be honored with the medal for starting it.

The Apparitions are a little alt-folk and a little alt-country. If Hot Hot Heat gets you going, The Apparitions may also turn you on. With lyrics like “I will never act to proud to beg” and “I always seem to stall before I start” The Apparitions are on the heels of Wilco. Not quite a Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, but what will ever be on equal ground with that? Oxygen Think Tank is solid from beginning to end. The singer slips in a couple Eddie Vedder warbles throughout the CD, but other than that he stays true to the “post-secondary political science rock with a minor in art history” sound in his heart.
