What can I say about Subterranean Masquerade’s Temporary Psychotic State that will sound commonplace? How about this: It’s only two songs, but clocks in at over 17 minutes. No, that’s pretty rare. How about the fact that each song is like an orchestral piece in that it rises and falls and is constantly laced with a string section. No, you don’t see that everyday. Okay, okay. What if I told you that the vocals sound like the willing invocation of something ominous to come shrieking out of my CD player and unroll a murderous rampage upon my treasured homeland. Seriously, I feel like I’ve been transported into the middle ages during the second song, “Observation Through Metamorphosis.” The songs are written and arranged very well, but they provoke a feeling that they are almost too realistic, and that sets me on edge. Perfect music for the upcoming fall season, or everyday if this description sounds appealing to you.
