One of those ‘some of this and some of that’ bands. Every element here is unoriginal and pulled directly from what I consider the current flavor of marketable heavy bands. Despite seeming to shoot for a louder vibe, Sinch are on the path to hit that commercial nu-metal/rock metal sound (Staind, Adema, Nickleback, Creed) that is getting overdone and overrun. That said, Sinch is a decent band. There is just nothing new here, the talent involved made it hard to dismiss this, but dismiss I do. The loud to quiet is so very predictable. With the GREAT exception of ‘Passive Resistor’ (which made me almost rethink this whole damn review)- erratic aggression and a punchy stapled guitar line gives a peek at what this band could accomplish. That is, when they aren’t mired in re-worked material. Again, not untalented, just achingly unoriginal. Pull back real quiet and whisper to either acoustic or subdued guitars, then crash in on cue for ‘dynamic’. And hold those vocal ‘owwwwwww’ and ‘awwwwww’ out real long, just like Eddie Vedder taught ya. There is some degree of passion here that counts for some personality that sneaks out occasionally, but overall, you got better things to be listening to.
