Review: The Rocket Summer

Songwriters are not making it very easy for me to hang my hat on their music.  Although there is more than one way to skin a cat the techniques used by Rocket Summer are tired and overworked.  Actually, it’s really starting to ruin it for me because I like this type of sound and wish nothing but the best for those who are dedicated to the scene.  Rocket Summer is indie rock with strong chord progressions and incredible vocal ranges.  Honestly, these guys have a great sound and god damn it I just can’t knock them.  I would like to think that this is what the new Dashboard Confessionals album will sound like (since they are a whole band now).

Seriously, every song just sort of runs together into one huge melting pot though.  I especially like “Cross My Heart” and “Mean Thoughts And Cheap Shots”.  These two are catchy as hell and I can’t get them out of my head.  Mean Thoughts and Cheap Shots” got stuck in my head so bad the other day I was actually rocking out in my brain (can you say crazy?).  Anyways, good shit aside from the generic formula.
