P.W. Long offers whiskey-soaked tales of country blues from doing wrong, to girl trouble and of course drinking oneself into a depression. His guitar work recalls a Hendrix-influenced Stevie Ray Vaughan and his vocals occasionally seem strained when he reaches the high notes. And “Remembered” certainly doesn’t cover any new ground musically or lyrically that hasn’t already been covered by the greats such as Alejandro Escovedo and Johnny Cash, nor does it stand out among the handful of more current and excellent alt-country artists. Still it’s a pleasing, albeit mediocre, hard rock and bluesy experience.
