Kaz Murphy
“Devil in the Barn”
(Barn Wall Records)

Kaz’s roots rock album with a strong country bent is a trove of excellent songs. There are ten original pieces as well as a Western ballad rendition of “Castles Made of Sand”. A strong lineup assured this albums music success: drummer Brian Young (Posies, Fountains of Wayne), guitarist Jon Skibic (Gigolo Aunts), guitarist Tony Gilkyson (X, Chuck E. Weiss) and more. This sophomore release shows Murphy, who was once drummer for poet Allen Ginsberg, has a real gift for phrasing. The hip, contemporary roots rocker blends in accordion, steel guitar, upright bass and more for a smart and sophisticated take on C&W and some accessible Americana.
