Review: Jimmie’s Chicken Shack

Jimmie’s Chicken Shack
“Re.present”
(Koch)

If the fact that the lead singer cunt from Staind shows up on this record isn’t enough, one of the chumps from Creed also pitches in to make this record what it is. Jim Haha is the only one left from the original JCS lineup, and it’s not difficult to see why the rest of the dudes decided to up and jump ship after a few spins of “Re.Present.” The title enough would have me packing up my amps and heading west, maybe to jump off of a cliff.

The track “Quitter,” is raucous enough, with an angrily spit chorus and roiling guitars backing it up. But the inane lyrics and grating voice of lead singer Haha begin to bug hard about halfway through the song, with the only defense available that of the skip button. “Happiness” is even worse, with a sluggish Creed-like cadence and soaring, overblown vocals creating a soundscape that is vast but boring. This album may appeal to the peeps out there who dig these chunky, bloated rock balladeers, but the other 99 percent of the population should steer clear.
