After years of protracted legal wrangling, Rob Zombie finally saw his splatter flick released. The movie “House of 1000 Corpses” is like H. G. Lewis’s “10,000 Maniacs” crossed with “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”. Liberal dialogue extracts are interspersed between the songs. Because, like the two movies mentioned, this film centers on a Southern locale trapped in the past, we get songs like Buck Owens Western ballad “Who’s Gonna Mow Your Grass?” and “I Wanna be Loved by You” by Helen Kane, the voice of Betty Boop. Along with this we get “Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue” (The Ramones) and five new Zombie songs. This new Zombie material includes the strange combination of Rob Zombie with Lionel Ritchie and bawdy rapper Trina doing “Brick House 2003”. The movie title song is one the strongest new Zombie tune here. It’s a powerful southern gothic psychobilly tune that could easily fit in on any album from The Cramps. The full-color points also gets points for displaying the cast in the style of the Sean Tejaratchi-edited “Death Scenes: A Homicide Detective’s Scrapbook”.  http://www.houseof1000corpses.com
