Review: Halfway To Gone

Halfway to Gone
“Self-Titled”
(Small Stone)

First of all, who approves these guys’ cover art?  Are you kidding me?  That flying horse thing is something an Eighth Grader who is way too into Dungeons and Dragons would have scribbled on his English notebook.  Secondly, who approved the music?  This sludgy mess is better suited for fans of Karma to Burn (all fourteen of them are stoked right now) than for the general listening public.  With heavy guitars and heavier distortion, this wallowing, eleven-track mastodon of a metal record never gets off the ground.  I guess I should say, “never gets out of first gear”, seeing as how Small Stone is based in Detroit.  Whatever the case, laugh at the silly drawing on the cover and move on.
