Eliza Carthy
“Anglicana”
(Topic Records)

In a one-woman fight against the popularity in Britain of Americana, Eliza Carthy strikes back with her own artfully delivered Anglicana. This mature, developed album is her arrangements of traditional airs along with one original, “Dr. McMbe” written for her Dad’s 60th birthday. With performing folk music in her blood and a career that started at age six, Eliza is eminently suited to deliver this music with skill and style. She does this in a largely purist approach, that is using no modern gimmicks to “update” the sound. She lets the songs express themselves, replete as they are in their own beauty and grace.
