Gothic DIY superstars Black Tape for a Blue Girl have been around since 1986, apparently, and are still doing it their own way on their own label with their own recordings.  This concept album, of sorts, based around a story by Kafka has an almost new-ageish, world music feel to it at moments which might alienate hard goth fans, but the skill and expertise that the songs are put together with is undeniable.  Particularly odd and striking is their Sonic Youth cover “Shadow of a Doubt” which completely puts the original on it’s head.
