Review: Blur

blur
Blur
““Greatest Hits””
(Virgin Records)

If you are interested in Blur, but you don’t know where to start , this double CD is highly recommended. The first disc has 18 tracks that come off of various albums and singles, while the second disc is recorded live from Wembley Arena 12-12-99. Blending pop with psychedelia, Blur writes infectious melodies driven by spacious, dirty guitars.  Always dubbed Oasis’ biggest rival by the British press, Blur has nothing in common with other Brit-pop acts. With lyrics such as “Girls who want boys/Who like boys to be girls/Who do like boys like they’re girls/Who do like girls like they’re boys/Always should be someone you really love” (Girls and Boys) remind the listener of early Bowie and T.Rex. Singer Damon is one of the best singers in rock in a long time. “Track No.2” , Blur’s biggest American hit is a great party song that  can have an arena full of people screaming along. This is a great summer party album that deserves to be cranked all night!!
